Katherine Mary Marcoccio 1951 - 2007 - RICHIBOUCTOU-VILLAGE, NB -
Katherine Mary Marcoccio, of Richibouctou-Village, wife of Bernard Léger, passed away surrounded by family and friends on March 19th, 2007 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital at the age of 55. Born in Providence Rhode Island, USA, on October 11th, 1951, she was the daughter of late Bernardo A. Marcoccio and the late Felomina (Polumbo) Marcoccio. Katherine Mary Marcoccio is survived by one sister, Annie (George) Zeinyel of Jamestown R.I.; two brothers, Ben (Janine) Marcoccio of Johnston RI, Philip (Margaret Lusk) Marcoccio of San Francisco USA; one nephew, Antony; and two nieces, Isabella and Oni; one aunt, Mary Polumbo of North Providence, RI; one uncle, Joseph (Viola) Polumbo of Rhode Island; and also several cousins. Katherine Mary Marcoccio was a professor for 20 years and director of the School of Social Work at the "Université de Moncton" until she entered the hospital. She received her B.A. from the (Pembroke) Brown University, her master and doctorate in anthropology from Brandies University. Katherine was a beautiful, loving and nurturing person. She was also a woman of immense integrity, amazing courage and unquestionable principle. Katherine was deeply respected and cherished by her family, friends and colleagues. She was that rare and special individual who had the gift of being able to inspire, empower and liberate people so that they could realize their full potential. Katherine was a great teacher and the greatest friend of all. Visitation will be held at the Saint-Antoine de Padoue Roman Catholic Church Slumber Room, Richibouctou-Village on Tuesday, March 20th, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, and Wednesday from 2 to 3:45 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 21st, at the Saint-Antoine de Padoue Church, Richibouctou-Village at 4 pm. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery in the spring.
