Silas P. Melanson -
Ending a long illness that had confined him to bed since last June, Silas P. Melanson died at his home in St. George street early yesterday morning. He had been a resident of Moncton for 35 years, coming here from Scoudouc where he was born. His death, although it was not unexpected, was a severe loss to many friends. Mr. Melanson, who was well known and had made many firm friends, was during all the time he had resided in Moncton and employee of the Record Foundry. He was known as a craftsman of skill and his employers had found him a loyal and competent worker. He was a member of L'Assomption Cathedral parish. The funeral will be held on Saturday with requiem mass sung in the cathedral at 9 a.m. Surviving are his wife and nine children. They are, six daughters, Mrs. Joseph Arsenault, Moncton; Edna, Doris, Lena, Anita and Verna, at home; three sons, Clarence, Edward and John, also of home. One sister, Mrs. Phileas Leger, Moncton, and one brother, Theotime Melanson, Scoudouc, also survive. Interment will be in Shediac Road cemetery Saturday.
