    FRANCIS 'CONKIE' LEGERE

    OLD TOWN - Francis "Conkie" Legere, 80, husband of Charlotte L. (Cox) Legere, died March 16, 2002, at a Bangor hospital, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Old Town, a son of Alfred and Mary (Tardiffe) Legere. Conkie was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army, during World War II. He retired in 1973, after serving 18 years for the Old Town Public Works. He enjoyed watching TV, listening to music, and playing his harmonica. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, and an avid Red Sox fan. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; a daughter, Fran Robertson and her husband, Harold Robertson III of LaGrange; two grandchildren, Lauren E. Crocker of LaGrange and Thomas J. Crocker of Milford; a brother, Leonard "Joe" Legere of Chemo Pond, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Laurence, Albert and Lionel; three sisters, Rose, Gladys and Celia. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 287 South Main St., Old Town. A funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the Old Town United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ron Chaffee, officiating. Burial will be at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. www.dignitymemorial.com.
