She was the former Provincial President of the CWL in 1988, a Life Member of the National Council CWL, former President of St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, a member of the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, having just received her Life Membership from the Regional Hospital. She was a recipient of the Canadian Volunteer Award from the Department of Health and Community Services as well as receiving a National Certificate of Merit from Girl Guides of Canada. Mrs. Leger was very involved in her community with the South End Development, Right to Life, and a long standing member of St. John the Baptist Church. Frances, with her husband, enjoyed many summers at their Hunter Lake cottage where many parties were hosted for their friends at Rocmaura and Turnbull Nursing Homes and the Cathedral Choir.1

    McLAUGHLIN, RITA M. -
    The death of Rita (Cavanaugh) McLaughlin, wife of John McLaughlin of Saint John, NB, occurred on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Milltown, NB, on June 3, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Hebert and Annie (Francoeur) Cavanaugh. Rita was dedicated to her faith and was a member of St. Pius X Church. She was a member of the Home and School Program, Blockparent and the CWL. Rita was an avid volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she was a "fixture" in the lobby, selling tickets for fundraisers. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a devoted wife of 58 years. Besides her husband, Rita is survived by her sons, Joseph (Deborah) of Saint John, Wm. Michael of Vancouver, BC, Dr. John L. McLaughlin of Toronto, ON, Robert (Janet) of Quispamsis, Dr. David McLaughlin (Alison) of Edmonton, AB, Peter of Montreal, PQ; daughters, Ann Marie of Quispamsis, Teresa Gallant (Kenneth) of Rothesay, NB, and Helen of Vancouver, BC; her brother, Vincent Cavanaugh of London, ON; ten grandchildren, Angella Mercer, Paula Thomas, Catherine Hovey, Joel Machum, Mackenzie and Patrick Gallant, John, Laura, Ellen and Paul McLaughlin; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Amelia Mercer; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Hubert, A. Bernard, Ignatius, James and Cyril; her sisters, Patricia Dempsey, Frances Leger, Mary and Theresa Cavanaugh. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday from 7 to 9 pm and Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Pius X Church, on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at 10:00am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery.     BISHOP, NEDDIE RUSSELL The death of Neddie Russell Bishop of Upper Salmon Creek, NB occurred Tuesday, February 12th, 2008 at the Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Salmon Creek, NB he was the son of the late G. Russell and Valerie Blanche (Higgins) Bishop. Retiring in 2005 after 42 years with Grand Lake Timber, Neddie was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 74, Chipman, the Masonic Lodge and the Chipman Fish and Game Association. He was a very active volunteer with Chipman Community Care and was well known as everybody's "Mr. Fix it". Neddie is survived by his loving wife, Heather (Wasson) Bishop; a stepson, Shawn King of Janetville, ON; a brother, Kevin-John Bishop of Chipman; his sisters, Joey Niles (Herry) of Fredericton, Rubye Leger (Paul) of Rothesay and Laverne Legge of Quispamsis; a brother-in-law, John Wasson (Ursula) of Wyveale, ON; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Brown (George) of Ottawa, ON; 2 aunts, Verna Waddelow of Fredericton and Myra Colwell of Chipman; an uncle, Murray Higgins (Mona) of Chipman; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, G. Russell and Valerie Bishop; a brother-in-law, Eugene Legge, a nephew, Emanuel Legge; his mother and father-in-law, Herby and Iola Wasson. Resting at the Grand Lake Community Chapel (43 Main Street, Chipman, 339-5522) with visitation Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, February 15th, 2008 at the Second Chipman United Baptist Church, Chipman with Pastor David Egers officiating. Interment will take place in the Chipman United Baptist Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital (Palliative Care Unit) or the charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
