Francis D. Cormier Amherst, Aug 26 -
The death occurred on Friday morning at the residence, 29 Maple Avenue, of Francis D. Cormier, one of the veteran French Acadien citizens. The late Mr. Cormier, who was seventy-six years of age, had been ill for the past year, and although his death was not unexpected, it came as a shock to the members of his family, for he had shown certain indications of improvement in health shortly before the end. The deceased is survived by his wife, two sons, Frank, in Amherst, and Jude, in New York, and three daughters, Mrs. Alfred Alland and Mrs. J. Leger, Amherst, and Mrs. W. LeBlanc, Montreal; and one brother, James, of Shemogue. The late Mr. Cormier came to Amherst forty-seven years ago and took up contract work on a small scale. Gradually he increased his business, and until he retired some eight or nine years ago, had held a contract for the foundation work of the Catholic Church, the St Charles School and a number of other large institutions. He also supervised the constuction of the first telephone line between Amherst and Truro, and laid the wooden pipes of the old King Waterworks. Mr. Cormier was the third French Acadien to take up a permanent residence in Amherst, moving here from Cape Bauld. - [S93] Source inconnue author, Joseph Léger et Mary Jane Cormier - pierre tombale (n.p.: Saint Charles Nativity de Amherst, source inconnue publish date).
