Biographical information / Informations biographiques

His mother died five days after he was born and he was an only child. He attended schools in Massachusetts and entered the Queen of Apostles College and Seminary in Dedham, Mass. in 1952. After earning a Bachelor's degree in philosophy there, in 1956, he attended the Catholic University in Washington, D.C. where he earned a Master's degree in theology after four years of study. He also did post graduate study at Boston College, where he earned a degree in religious education in 1974. He was ordained a priest on February 2, 1960 by Cardinal Richard Cushing of the Archdiocese of Boston. He was ordained to the Society of African Missions (SMA). After his ordination, Father LeGere continued studies at the Gregorian University in Rome and at the Society of African Missions Seminary in Washington, D.C. As an SMA, Father LeGere ministered in Liberia, West Africa from 1963 to 1966. He then worked in various administrative positions for his order, including vocations director and rector of the Queen of Apostles Seminary and College. Father LeGere worked in the Bahamas from 1974 to 1977 and served as the superior provincialiate for the Society of African Missions in Tenafly, N.J. from 1977 to 1981. Father LeGere came to Florida in 1981 and served St. Coleman Parish in Pompano Beach as a parochial vicar for four years. He came to the Diocese of Venice in 1985 and served as parochial vicar of St. William Parish in Naples. He was incardinated to the Dicocese of Venice in September, 1991. In 1992, Father LeGere was appointed as administrator of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish and was appointed pastor there in 1993. Along with pastoral duties, Father LeGere was active in Alcoholics Anonymous through counseling and teaching classes. He served at the Pine Island parish until his retirement in January. His health, that was declining due to his cancer, led him to retire. A member of St. William Parish who worked with Father LeGere for five and a half years described him as ""very humble''.1
