    Alcide Leger
    1938-1999

    Mr. Alcide Leger, 60, of Cormier Village passed away on Saturday, April, 10, 1999, at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton following a lenghty illness.

    Born in Cormier Village, he was the son of the late Didace and Josephine (Gaudet) Leger.

    He will be sadly missed by his wife Diana (Cormier) Leger; one son, Emerie of Cormier Village; five sisters, Claudine Henderson of BC, Delphine Leger of Robichaud, Jeanine Boudreau (Joseph), Geraldine Allain (Edmond) both of Barachois, Lucia Arsenault of Shediac; four brothers, Yvon of St. André, Emile, Levis both of Barachois, René of Shediac. Predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Ovila, Alderic.

    Resting at Frenette Funeral Home, 396 Main St. Shediac with visitation on Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, on Monday 3 pm until departure for the funeral Mass. The funeral Mass will be celebrated 4 pm on Monday, April 12, 1999 from Sacré Coeur Roman Catholic Church, Haute Aboujagane. Interment in the Parish Cemetery.

    CARAQUET - Au Centre hospitalier de l'Enfant Jésus de Caraquet, le dimanche 2 juillet 1995, à l'âge de 91 ans et sept mois, est décédée Corinne Blanchard (née Légère), épouse de Alban Blanchard, domiciliée à Caraquet. Elle était fille de feu Hilaire Légère et de feu Ada Allen.

    Outre son époux, elle laisse dans le deuil deux belle-filles, Alfreda (feu Dr Antonin Blanchard) de Chatham, et Marie (feu Paul-Émile Blanchard) de Sept-Îles, Qué.; une soeur, Louise Richard de Memramcook; deux demi-soeurs: Lorraine Dupuis de Memramcook, et Elizabeth Légère de Dieppe; quatre demi-frères: Cédric Légère (feu Marie-Anne) de Shédiac, Patrice Légère (feu Marguerite) de Dieppe, Robert Légère (Yvonne) de Haut-Aboujagane, et Léo Légère (Anna) de Montréal, Qué., ainsi que six petits-enfants, plusieurs arrière-petits-enfants et plusieurs neveux et nièces.

    Une fille, Évelyne, ainsi que trois fils: Dr Antoinin, Paul-Emile, et père Virgile, eudiste, l'ont précédée dans la tombe.

    La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée à la Maison funéraire Racicot de Caraquet. Le convoi funèbre partira ce mardi 4 juillet, à 15h45, pour se rendre en l'église Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens de Caraquet, où le service sera chanté à 16h et, de là, au cimetière paroissial.

    Heures de visite: ce mardi 4 juillet, de 14h jusqu'au départ pour les funérailles.

    La direction des funérailles a été confiée à la Maison funéraire Racicot de Caraquet.

    Jérémie S. Léger

    C'est avec un profond regret que nous enregistrons la mort de M. Jérémie-S. Léger, survenue le 24 janvier à sa résidence à Robichaud, N.-B. Malade depuis 2 ans, il a eu le bonheur de recevoir les sacrements durant sa maladie. Il était âgé de 86 ans et 4 mois.

    Il laisse dans un deuil profond 2 fils et 3 filles, qui sont: Alfred, avec qui il demeurait, Clarence, de Vilna, Alberta, Mme Frank Forest (Herméline), de Portland, Maine, Mme Evariste Breau (Albina), Mme Alice Poirier, toutes deux de Gardner, Mass., et un fils adoptif, le Rév. Père Alfred Léger, Eudiste, de Laval-des-Rapides, Montréal, qui était son neveu. Son épouse l'a précédé dans la tombe il y a 10 ans.

    Les funérailles ont eu lieu dimanche le 27, à l'église St-Henri du Barachois au milieu d'un bon nombre de parents et d'amis. Le service fut chanté le lendemain par le Rév. Père Edgar LeBlanc, curé de la paroisse. Les porteurs étaient MM. Eric, Edouard et Emerie Léger, petits-fils du défunt, Léonide Doiron, Salomon Thibodeau et Raymond Léger, neveux.

    Vous tous qui l'avez connu, une prière pour le repos de son âme.

    MME FRED B. LEGER

    Les funérailles de Mme Fred B. Léger, née Elizabeth Bastarache, ont eu lieu à l'église Saint-Antoine de Padoue, samedi, le 8 juillet.

    La défunte était âgée de 65 ans. Elle souffrit avec résignation une longue maladie de trois ans. Chrétienne fervent, mère très dévouée, sa mort fut comme sa vie, douce et paisible.

    M. le curé Zoël-J. Landry chanta la messe de Requiem. Les porteurs étaient les six fils de la défunte: M. Alfred Léger, M.D. pratiquant à Rogersville; M. Antoine Léger, B.S.A., résidant au Village Richibouctou; M. Emile Léger, B.A., qui termina en juin dernier, un cours d'études à l'Université St-Joseph; M. Louis Léger, marchand, du Village Richibouctou; Gérard et Tilmon Léger, à la maison paternelle.

    En plus de ces six garçons, la défunte laisse dans le deuil son époux, M. Fred B. Léger, et 3 filles, Dorina, institutrice, Alexina, ancienne élève du couvent de Bouctouche, et Alida.

    La famille éprouvée offre des remerciements sincères à ceux qui les ont aidé dans cette épreuve.

    DEATH OF E. LEGER
    CAPE BALD (Special) - The death of Emile Leger of R.R. No. 2 Lower Cape Bald occurred at his home Wednesday following a sudden illness. He was 71. Born in Cormier Village, he was the son of the late Irene and Marie (Gallant) Leger, both of Cormier village. Mr. Leger was a cook retiring in 1955. He attended Cape Bald Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Bertha Beazeau; one son, Gerald, at home; one sister, Mrs. Alvina Deveau of Meteghan, N.S.; and two brothers, Sigfroid and Didas, both of Cormier Village. The body is resting at Frenettes Funeral Home, Shediac with funeral service to be held from Cape Bald Roman Catholic Church Friday morning at 11:15 a.m. The body will be placed in the parish cemetery vault for interment in the spring.

    M. A. Edna Legere, 92, 70 Winston Ave., Amherst, formerly of Joggins, died Friday at Gables Lodge, Amherst. Born in Barachois, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth (LeBlanc) Legere. She was a seamstress by trade and was well known throughout the area as a dressmaker. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Joggins. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Burbine, Cape Cod, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; a great-niece, Judy (Mrs. Rickey Reid), with whom she lived. She was predeceased by two sisters, Georgina Richards and Emma Burke, a brother, Ben. The body will be in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst, after 2 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will 10 a.m. Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Burial will be in Ragged Reef Cemetery.

    FITCHBURG- Alma (Leger) Brodeur, 101, formerly of Fitchburg and Leominster, a onetime industrial worker, died Friday night in Apple Valley Care Center, Ayer.

    Mrs. Brodeur worked at Independent Lock Co. for many years, until 1949. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a former member of St. Joseph's Church in Old Town, Maine, and its Ladies of St. Anne Society.

    A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Conception Church, 58 Walnut St. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

    Mrs. A. J. Cormier Shediac, N.B., March 18 -
    The Community was deeply shocked this morning to hear of the death of one of its leading citizens in the person of Mrs. A. J. Cormier, which occurred today after a short illness. The cause of death is given as heart failure. The late Mrs. Cormier was 66 years of age and was one of the most highly respected citizens of this town. For thirty years, following the death of her husband, she had conducted a store here and had by her unfailing energy built up a splendid business. She was held in high esteem throughout the district and the province by reason of her fine business judgement and ability. The deceased lady is survived by three sons, to whom the sympathy of the community goes out as it does to the three daughters who are also living. The sons are: Rev. One brother, Angus, of Richibucto also survives, as do three sisters, Mrs. Adolph LeBlanc, of Richibucto, Mrs. Albert Goguen, of Cocagne, Miss Silva Leger, of Shediac. The funeral will be held on Friday morning with interment in St. Joseph Roman Catholic cemetery.

    Outre son épouse Albina (née Thibodeau) Léger, il laisse dans le deuil six filles et six fils: Juliette (Mme Yvon Léger), de Cap-Pelé; Claudette (Mme Georges Plummer) et Alice, toutes trois de Robichaud; Hélène (Mme Néri Bourque), de Toronto; Evéline (Mme Emery LeBlanc), de Humphrey (Moncton); Marguerite (Mme Armand Grenier), de Windsor, Ont.; Emery, Alcide, Léandre et Joseph, tous de Robichaud; Oswald et Camille, tous deux de Cap-Pelé; une soeur: Alice (Mme Clifford Anderson), des Etats-Unis; 40 petits-enfants et 15 arrière-petits-enfants. Un frère, Ambroise, de Shédiac, est décédé en 1980.

    La dépouille mortelle a été exposée au salon funéraire Frenette, à Shédiac. Les funérailles eurent lieu, hier, avec service funèbre en l’église Saint-Henri-du-Barachois, à 14h30, et inhumation dans le cimetière paroissial.

    The many friends of Mrs. Angeline Gallant, widow of the late Mr. Placide Gallant, of Barachois, will learn with regret of her death, which occurred on Saturday evening at the Hotel Dieu hospital after a short illness. Possessed of very high intellectual attainments and sterling qualities, she endeared herself to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances and her loss will be keenly felt by all who knew her. Deceased was 78 years of age and had a most retentive memory right up to the time of her demise. Her husband, who was Dominion fisheries inspector for many years, predeceased her by 14 years. The late Mrs. Gallant leaves to mourn their loss, two daughters, Mrs. Exelda LeBlanc, of this city, and Mrs. Saul Gaudet, of Upper Aboujagane, and four sons, Auguste, prosperous farmer of Barachois; Hector, vice-president of Federal Industries, limited, Montreal; Raymond, of the same firm, and Alban, of the engineering department of Dorchester Penitentiary. Another daughter, Mrs. Arthur Leger, of Barachois, died eight years ago. She also leaves 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The body will be taken this morning from the residence of her daughter, Mrs. E. LeBlanc, 33 Cornell street, and forwarded on the 11 o'clock train to Shediac, whence it will be conveyed to her late home in Barachois for burial on Tuesday morning after requiem high mass is celebrated at St. Henry's Church, Rev. Father Edgar LeBlanc, pastor.

He was a son of the late Dr. Joseph A. Leger and Rosaline Landry, of Dorchester, daughter of Amand Landry, the first Acadian elected to the New Brunswick Legislature. Mr. Leger's mother was a sister of Sir Pierre Landry once a member of the Hanington-Landry Government at Fredericton.

He entered heartily into the various activities of our civic life, taking a prominent part in various activities of our civic life, taking a prominent part in varoious movements having for their object the welfare and progress of the city, and could always be depended upon to lend his support to undertakings for the good of the community. He was a man of broad views and stood high in the esteem of all who knew him and admired him for his fine social qualities and his high sense of honor.

He received his education in Shediac schools and at St. Joseph's University, afterwards taking up pharmaceutical studies and after graduating as a druggist he was located in Chatham for a time before opening up ousiness in Moncton and Shediac in partnership with his brother George. He managed the Shediac store for several years before taking over direction of the business in Moncton and resided in the Hub for some years. He returned to Shediac in 1931 and up to the time of his illness conducted the store here. Active in Community Affairs During his years of residence here, he took a leading part in the public life of the town and community at large and served on the Town Council, first as an alderman and afterwards as mayor. In Moncton he likewise was active in all movements pertaining to the welfare of the city and served as president of the Board of Trade. He was a keen student, well versed on the public affairs of the day both nationally and internationally and above all was a Canadian of high stering worth. An engaging personality, he also possessed at all times a pleasantness of manner that endeared him to a wide circle of friends not only in his native province but beyond its borders who will mourn his passing with sincere regret. The late Mr. Leger also possessed many other admirable qualities and was charitable to the utmost degree. In his death, Shediac and the province of New Brunswick in general have lost a citizen of the highest type and a thorough gentleman. The deceased leaves to mourn, his wife, formerly Miss Helen McLaughlin, daughter of Michael McLaughlin, of Buctouche, and sister of A.P. Noel McLaughlin, prominent lawyer of Campbellton; also a young daughter, Raymonde; a sister, Miss Amanda Leger, Shediac, and a brother, George Leger, of Moncton, of the Leger Drug Company of Moncton and Shediac. The body is resting at the family home here and the funeral will be held from there on Thursday morning to St. Joseph's R.C. church here where solemn high mass of requiem will be celebrated at 9:30 o'clock by the rector, Rev. Father John J.V. Gaudet. Interment will afterwarde be made in the parish cemetery.

    Patrick C. Leger -
    The death of Patrick C. Leger, 131 Mountain Road, Occurred unexpectantly in the Hotel Dieu yesterday afternoon about five o'clock, following an illness of about two months' duration. When it became apparent that Mr. Leger health was waning he was removed to the Hotel Dieu about four days ago. Hopes were held for his recovery and the news of his death will be received with deep regret not only in Moncton but in Shediac and throughout this section of the county. The late Mr. Leger was born in Barachois, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Calixte Leger, and when a young man he removed to Shediac where he carried on a business until eight years ago when he removed to Moncton and opened a grocery and meat business at 150 John Street, a business which he conducted until ill health forced him to retire a short time ago. Mr. Leger is survived by his wife, who before her marriage was Miss Sarah Cormier, and nine daughters and three sons. The daughters are Mrs. (Dr.) E. M. Bourgeois, this city; Mrs. A. A. Daignault, Montreal; Misses Blanche, Iren, Germaine, Margaret, Evangeline, Reta, Patricia, all at home, and the sons are Oswald, Aurele, and Edward, all at home. Five brothers and two sisters also survive, the brothers being A. C. Leger, general merchant, Shediac; Alderic Leger, Beachmont, Mass.; George Leger and Edward Leger, Lowell, Mass., and Oswald Leger, Los Angeles. The sisters are Mrs. Moses Gosselin, New Bedford, and Miss Evangeline Leger, Beachmont. The funeral will be held Thursday morning with service in L'Assomption Church and interment will be made in the Shediac cemetery.

    René Léger, 64, of Boudreau Ouest, passed away on Friday, February 22, 2008 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton following a lengthy illness. Born December 22, 1943 in Cormier Village, he was the son of the late Didace and Josephine (Gaudet) Léger. He was a past employee with Archille LeBlanc Paving.     Emile J. Leger, 74, of 138 Cathy St., died Wednesday, Sept. 15, in The Highlands Long-Term Care Center, after an illness. He was born July 27, 1930, in New Brunswick, Canada, the son of the late Tilmon and Lena (Arsenault) Leger. Mr. Leger worked for 36 years at Aubuchon Hardware in Westminster, and as a truck driver. Prior to that, had had worked at the former Philbin Ford in Fitchburg. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, earning the rank of private first class, and was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, the Worcester Truck Drivers Union Local 170 and the Men’s Retired Bowling League in Fitchburg. He leaves his wife of 46 years, Rita M. (Richard) Leger; two sons, John Leger of Fitchburg and Richard Leger of Laguna Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Rose Leger Feldman and her husband, Andy, of Worcester and Diane Roy and her husband, Michael, of Fitchburg; four brothers, Alderic Leger of Worcester, Marcel Leger of Leominster, Edward Leger of Naples, Fla., and Raymond Leger of Leominster; one sister, Leonie Cormier of Leominster; two step grandchildren, Jeremy and Garrison Feldman; and two granddaughters whom he adored, Marie Roy and Starla Leger Feldman.     The death of Fidele Thibodeau, of Barachois, occurred on Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anselme Leger, at the age of 83 years. Although the deceased had been suffering from heart trouble, his passing came as a shock to the parish. His wife predeceased him some twelve years ago in the U.S.A., and he leaves to mourn one son, Anselme, New Hamshire, and four daughters, Mrs. Anselme Leger, of Barachois; Mrs. Denis LeBlanc, of Gardner Mass.; Mrs. Thomas Boudreau and Mrs. Alfred Allard, both of Fitchburg, Mass. The funeral was held this (Tuesday) morning at 8 o'clock from St. Henry's Church, Barachois, with Rev. Father Edgar LeBlanc officiating. The Pallbearers were Aurel, John A. and John P. Leger, Laurent Bourque, Raymond Cormier and Arthur Gaudet. The deceased has a wide circle of friends who gatheres at the church to attend the obsequies and there was a large number of mass cards and floral tributes received.

Il eut le bonheur de recevoir plusieurs fois durand sa maladie la visite de son cure et s'etait bien prepare a paraitre devant le Juge Supreme.
    Il laisse pour pleurer sa perte quatre enfants, trois garcons et une fille: MM. Oscar, Alderic et Elzear Leger du Barachois.
    Les funerailles eurent lieu 8 fevrier a l'eglise St-Joseph de Shediac au milieu d'un grand concours de parents et d'amis. Le service solennel fut celebre par le Revd D.J. LeBlanc, cure de la paroisse. Les porteurs etaient: MM. Venant Boudreau, Felicien Boudreau, Dosithe Boudreau, Louis Boudreau, Elzear Boudreau et Francis Desrosiers.
    M. Leger etait rese bien connu dans nos paroisses et etait fort estime de tous ceux que avaient eu le bonheur de le connaitre.
    L'Acadien se joint aux nombreux amis du regrette defunt pour offrir ses plus sinceres sympathies a la famille si cruellement eprouvee.

    Mrs. Margaret LeBlanc -
    The death of Mrs. Margaret LeBlanc, widow of Angus LeBlanc, occurred Sunday night at her home in Scoudouc, at the advanced age of eighty-four years. She had been in good health until a few days ago when she was stricken. She had resided all her life in that neighbourhood. She is survived by four sons and three daughters. The sons are Philip, of Scoudouc, with whom she resided; Dominic and Edmond, of this city, and Napoleon and Medee, of Lynn, Mass. The daughters are Mrs Joseph Bourgeois and Mrs. Peter Bourgeois, of Moncton and Mrs. Alban Leger, of Lynn, Mass. Her sons Napoleon and Medee accompanied by their sister, Mrs. Leger, of Lynn, Mass., arrived here last week. The funeral will be held this morning at Scoudouc.

    Mrs. Martha Gagnon Shediac, April 28 -
    The death of the oldest residents of the district of Dupuis Corner occurred Monday when Mrs. Mathias Gagnon passed away at the age of 90 years. after a lengthy illness. The deceased, who was formerly Miss Sulila Leger, was a life-long resident of that place and during her long years there had made a wide circle of friends who will regret to learn of her passing. She was predeceased by her husband some 13 years ago and she leaves to mourn four children; three daughters; (Aleda) Mrs. Tilman Bourque, of Memramcook; Pamelia and Elizabeth, and one son, Gaspard, at home. One brother, Andre Leger, of Fitchburg Mass., also survives. The funeral service was held Wednesday morning from St. Henry's Church, Barachois, with Rev. Father Edgar LeBlanc officiating. The pall-bearers were Albenie and Philip Gagnon, Leo Doiron, Louis and Clarence Doiron and Arsene Gagnon. The large throngs that filled the church for the services which were held at nine o'clock attested to the high esteem in which the deceased was held.

    One of the community's oldest and most highly esteemed residents, Etienne Leger, of Scoudouc, passed away at his home here yesterday at the age of 89 years. Well known throughout the district, Mr. Leger enjoyed the esteem and friendships all of whom deeply mourn his passing. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning. Burial will take place in the cemetery here.

    This village was shocked on Sunday last when it was learned that one of its oldest residents, Albert Goguen, had passed away after a short illness. The deceased, a native of that place, was 83 years of age and had spent most of his life there as a farmer. He was a devout Catholic and was popular among a wide circle of friends. in politics he was a staunch Conservative. He leaves to mourn his wife (nee Caroline Leger) and one adopted son, Fred Goguen. The funeral service was held Wednesday morning from St. Peter's Catholic Church in Cocagne. Rev. Father Alphie Gaudet celebrated requiem high mass.

    The funeral of Felicien Leger took place this afternoon from St. Joseph's Church here and was largely attended by many friends and relatives of the deceased who was held in high esteem. Rev. J.J. V. Gaudet, parish priest, conducted the service, after which the cortege left for Barachois where interment was made. Rev. Fr. Emile Gallant of Grand Digue, said the committal prayers at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Leo Bourque, Emile Bourque, Blair Bourque, Philip Leger, Eric Cormier and Auguste Cormier.
