    M. Clément Girouard

    STE-MARIE - M. Clément Girouard, de Ste-Marie-de-Kent, est décédé hier après quelques jours de maladie, à l'hôpital Georges-Dumont de Moncton. Il était âgé de 89 ans.

    Né en 1879 à Ste-Marie, il était le fils de feux M. et Mme Olivier Girouard, de cette paroisse. Il était cultivateur, mais s'était retiré depuis environ 20 ans. Son épouse, née Elmire Cormier, l'a précédé dans la tombe il y a quelques années.

    Il laisse dans le deuil cinq filles, Mme Léandre Léger (Maria), Mme William Anderson (Irène), Mme Alfred Niles (Corinne) et Mlle Yvonne Girouard, tous de Moncton; et Mme Clément LeBlanc (Alice) de Hartford; trois fils, Emile de St-Marie, Emery de Montréal et Laurie, de Moncton; ainsi que 24 petits-enfants et 25 arrières petits-enfants.

    La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée au salon funéraire Richard de Bouctouche. Les funérailles auront lieu mercredi après-midi à 3h., en l'église paroissiale de Ste-Marie-de-Kent et la dépouille sera placée dans le charnier pour être inhumée au printemps.

Deceased was 33 years of age and was a brother of Henry LEGER, brother, of Moncton. He learned his trade in the Peters Combination Lock factory in Moncton and at the time of his last illness was foreman in the lock department of the Wm Hall Iron and Brass works in Boston.

    Ambroise Leger
    Word has been received here of the death ot Los Angeles, California of December 31, of Ambroise Leger, a former Main street shoe merchant. Mr. Leger, who died after only a few hours illness was a native of this city. In his younger days he managed a shoe business for a local concern and about 40 years ago he opened a shoe store on Main street on his own account. He retired from business about 20 years ago and removed to California. For a time he conducted a grocery business at Los Angeles but retired a few years ago. About three years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Leger spent some months travelling across Canada and visiting friends here. Mr. Leger's death will be learned with regret by a large circle of friends in Moncton and vicinity where he was very popular. He is survived by his wife, formally Miss Alvina Bourque, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Phillip D. Bourque, also of this city. A. P. Bourque of Moncton, now spending the winter in Los Angeles is a brother-in-law.

    Mrs. Anna May "Mazie" Léger, 88, widow of the late Joseph A. Léger of Pointe-du-Chêne passed away at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton on Tuesday, September 2, 1997 after a lenghty illness.

    Born in Pointe-du-Chêne, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Gallant and the late Anna Lirette. A retired homemaker, she attended Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the C.W.L. in Pointe-du-Chêne.

    She is survived by two daughters, Jean Boudreau (Frank) of Pointe-du-Chêne, Barbara LeBlanc (Guy) of Shediac; four sons, Edgar (Micheline), Gerald (Dorthy) of Pointe-du-Chêne, Richard (Mathilde) of Shediac, Donald (Heather) of Stouffville, Ont.; three brothers, Gerald, Lloyd and John Gallant of Pointe-du-Chêne; one daughter-in-law, Catherine Pellerin; one son-in-law, Lloyd Crossman; one brother-in-law, Howard Fougère; 24 grandchildren and 27 grand granchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph A. Léger; two daughters, Pauline, Betty; two sons, Raymond, Francis and five sisters, Muriel, Tilley, Eva, Doris and Edna.

    Resting at Frenette Funeral Home Ltd., 396 Main St., Shediac (532-3297) with visiting hours on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, Pointe-du-Chêne on Friday, September 5, 1997 at 11 a.m. Interment in St. Joseph Roman Catholic cemetery, Shediac.

    Mrs. Abraham Cormier -
    The funeral took place at St Joseph's Cemetery Shediac, Thursday morning of Mrs. Cormier, who passed away Tuesday morning at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Dan Leger, on the Dorchester Road. The late Mrs. Cormier, who had reached the advanced age of 88, had lived her life time in this part of the country and was most highly esteemed by her neighbours and the many who knew her. She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Nap Leger, of Leger's Corner, Mrs. Dan Leger, of Dorchester Road, Mrs. Sam Gautier and Miss. Henritta Cormier, of Shediac, and the Misses Marcella and Alice Cormier, of Moncton. The latter were home for the funeral which was conducted by Rev. Father LeBlanc. The Pallbearers were Messrs. D. Leger and S. Gautier, of Shediac, and Messrs. McEncrowe, Connrs, Landrigan and Murphy, of the Dorchester Road.

    The death of Raymond G. Boudreau of 10 Kent Lane, Moncton, Occurred Thursday at the Georges Dumont Hospital after a long illness. He was 63. Born in Moncton, he was a son of the late Irenee and Exelda (Leger) Boudreau. he was employed as plant superintendant, Dr. Georges Dumont Hospital, until retirement recently, and attended Christ the King Roman Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Rita Richard; two sons, Bernard of A.N.M. University, College Station, Texas, and Richard Boudreau of Dalhousie University, Halifax; three sisters, Mrs. Leandre Vienneau (Mary-Louise) of Barachois, Mrs. Anna St. Louis of Fredericton and Miss Irene Boudreau of Moncton; two brothers, Frank and Arthur Boudreau, both of Moncton, Several nieces and nephews. The body is resting at Tuttle Brothers' funeral home, Moncton. Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church with interment in Our Lady of Calvary Roman Catholic Cemetery.

    Marguerite Thibodeau, 92, passed away at the Villa Providence, Shediac on Monday, December 17, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Ephrem V. and Rose-Anna (Landry) Léger. She worked at Princess Food Ltd. in Shediac for many years. She is survived by four daughters, Doris Boucher (Aquilla) and Camilla Gilbert (James) all of Fitchburg, Mass., Alvetta Richard (Ron LeBlanc) of Shediac, Rachelle Landry (Francis E.) of Westminster, Mass.; two sons, Raymond (Adrienne) of Gardner, Mass., and Ronald of Grand-Barachois; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a daughter-in-law, Joanne LeBlanc-Thibodeau of Iles-de-la-Madeleine; and by several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband Camille W. Thibodeau; and by three sisters and three brothers, Vitaline, Florida, Alma, Alban, Edgar, and Alexandre.     Elle était la dernière survivante de sa famille immédiate.

    The death occurred yesterday morning at the family residence, 140 Lester Avenue, of Mrs. Stephen Leger. She had been ailing for some time, but had only been confined to her bed for the last few weeks. The late Mrs. Leger, who before her marriage was Miss Mary LeBlanc, of College Bridge, was seventy years of age. She had resided in Moncton for many years, her husband being foreman of Sherrard's granite works. The late Mrs. Leger was a woman of sterling qualities and had a large number of friends who will sympatize with the bereaved family. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J. Henry Bourque, of Cambridge, Mass.; Mrs. Ida Gardner, of Boston, and Mrs. Fred Patterson, of this city, and two sons, Frank and Clorice, both of Moncton. She also leaves one sister, Miss Olive LeBlanc, of this city, and several grand-children. The funeral will be held on Thursday morning at eight o'clock from her late home to L'Assomption Church, where Requiem High Mass will be sung. Interment will be made in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Shediac Road.

    Word has been received of the death in Fitchburg, Mass., of J. Oscar Legere, after a long period of ill health. Mr. Leger was born in Shediac, 44 years ago, but had been a resident of Massachusetts 25 years. He was prominent in the large Acadian colony of Fitchburg and was a member of several organizations including the Foresters, Franco-Americans and L'Assomption Society. The funeral took place in Fitchburg, Rev. Father A. Chartier singing a high mass of requiem at St. Joseph's Church. The pallbearers were, Henry Babineau, Fidele Babineau, Arthur Legere, Rene Legere, Honore Legere, and Alderic Legere. The deceased is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Flora Legere, a son, Henry, and a daughter, Alberta, both of Fitchburg.

    Many friends learned with deep regret of the sudden death of Mrs. Charles J. Leger, which occurred at six o'clock Saturday morning at her home, 342 Lutz street. Although she had not enjoyed good health for the past two years, yet her condition was not considered extremely serious and her passing naturally came as a shock to her immediate family and other relatives and friends. The deceased was formerly Miss Justine Boudreau and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Marc Boudreau, of Barachois. She was born in that village 72 years ago, but moved to Moncton 40 years ago and has made her home here ever since, Being highly respected by a wide circle of acquaintances. Her husband who for many years was passenger car foreman at the C.N.R. depot here, died four years ago. She is survived by one son, Alban Leger; and three daughters, Mrs. Joseph P. LeBlanc, Mrs. Aurelie Murphy and Miss Laura Leger, the latter being an employee of the Canadian National Railway genral office staff here. The funeral will be held this Monday, morning to L'Assomption Church for requiem high mass at 9 o'clock. Interment will be in the Shediac Road Cemetery.

    Rosalie Goguen, wife of the late Arthur Goguen, of LeFurgey Street, Moncton, passed away Monday, November 5 2007 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Théophile and Gertrude (Petitpas) Gauvin. Rosalie was employed with Bigalow Department Store in the US and attended Holy Family Church, Moncton. She is survived by her sister: Elizabeth 'Betty' Leger (Late Alcide) of Moncton; special nephew Norman (Dorice) Gauvin; special niece Annette Leger and many more nieces, and nephews. Besides her husband, she is also predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Irene, Eva, Alice, Arthur, Edgar, Henri, Albert and Ernest. Resting at Frenette's Funeral Home, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Wednesday November 7, from 9 am to time of funeral at 11 am.     Dental Pioneer Dies at Age 84 -
    The death of Dr. Antoine J. Cormier of 192 Highfield Street, one of New Brunswick's most prominent Acadians and dentists, occurred Monday, following a lengthy illness. He was 84. Born in Shediac, he was educated at local schools and received his degree at St. Joseph's College. The first licensed Acadian dentist in the province. Dr. Cormier attended the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, the oldest dental College in the world, and after three years of study attended the University of Pennsyvania for post-graduate work. He returned to Shediac in 1912 and after a few months established his practice in Moncton where he continued for more than half a century. Dr. Cormier received a bachelor of science degree from USJ in 1923 and was named a fellow of the American College of Dentist in 1949. In 1950 he received an honorary doctorate in philosophy at USJ and in 1960 was made a life member of the N.B. Dental Society, family and citizens in 1960 upon completion of 50 years service in his profession and in 1966 he was presented with a life membership in the Canadian Dental Association. He served overseas in the First World War with the Canadian Dental Corps as a Captain. He was a past president of both the Moncton and N.B. Dental Societies and was one of the prime movers of the Dental Act in 1929. For a number of years he was chairman of the board of dental examiners in the province. Socially, he was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a charter member of the Elks Lodge No. 229 and a charter member of Le Cercle Acadien. His life long hobby was oysterculture. He married the former Alvina Melanson in 1914. Dr. Cormier's family also include three sons, who are all practicing dentists, and one daughter, Mrs. Louis (Lorraine) Chandler of Moncton. The sons ar Dr. George Cormier and Sr. Paul Cormier of Moncton and Dr. Leo Cormier of St. John. He was the son of the late Aimee and Dina (Leger) Cormier. Other survivors include two brothers, Dr. Oliver Cormier of Moncton and Rev. Leonide Cormier of Rogersville; 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The body is resting at Frenette's Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be at Assumption Cathedral on Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary cemetery at Charterville.

She was in her 68th year. Surviving are her husband, two sons, Chris, of Dover, N.B., Arthur at home, and the daughters are Miss Bessie, of Fergussons, Ltd., this city; Mrs. Leo LeBlanc, Lewisville; Miss Louis Cormier, Leominster; Mrs, Armand Tessier, Leominster; Mrs. Camille Belliveau, Montreal, and Miss Marie, at home. Three sisters, Mrs. Abel Belliveau, Humphrey's Mills; Mrs. David Bourque, Leominster.     Deux soeurs et deux frères, Minnie Bourque, Lina, Lionel et Joseph, l'ont précédé dans la tombe.
    La dépouille mortelle fut exposée à la Maison funéraire Frenette de Shédiac. les funérailles ont eu lieu le dimanche 21 juillet à 14h30 en l'église Saint-Henri du Barachais de Barachois. L'ihumation a eu lieu au Cimetière de l'endroit.

    Shediac, Aug. 12 -
    A. C. Leger, prominent merchant here, was laid to rest in Barachois, his native village, this morning. His funeral was one of the largest ever held in Shediac in recent years and was attended by persons from all walks in life in the town and district. The requiem high mass was sung by Rev. J.J.V. Gaudet, parish priest, assisted by Rev. Father LeBlanc of Barachois, as deacon and Rev. Father Pellerin, of Shediac, as sub-deacon. Priest in the sanctuary were Rev. Father l'Archiveque, of Scoudouc; Rev. Edgar Melanson, of Bathurst; Rev. Father Gaudet, of Cocagne, and Rev. Father Leger, of Upper Aboujagane. The pall-bearers were Mayor Sormany, E.R. McDonald, M.P.P., A. W. McQueen, F. J. Robidoux, Napoleon Leger and Dr. E. Bourgeois, of Moncton. Following the service in Shediac the large cortege proceeded at once to Barachois where the second libra was sung in the Barachois church. The great esteem in which Mr. Leger was held was plainly visible in the large congregation attending the obsequies and in the great many floral tributes, mass cards and spirtual offerings received.

    The death of Thadee Drisdale, of Petitcodiac and formerly of Upper Aboujagane, occured at the home of Mr. Philomin Melanson, Barachois, this morning at 5.30 o'clock after an illness of about six months. The deceased was 68 years of age and was a resident of Petitcodiac for 30 years prior to comming to Barachois some six months ago. Mr. Drisdale was a harness maker by trade. Possessed of a pleasing personality and of spendid character, he had a wide circle of friends who will deeply regret to learn of his passing. He leaves to mourn his passing, two brothers, Calixte Drisdale, of Moncton, and Louis Drisdale, of Upper Aboujagane; three sisters, (Leonie) Mrs. Placide Melanson, of Upper Aboujagane; (Annie) Mrs. Thibeau Leger, of Barachois, and (Mary) Mrs, Aime Oullette, of Bourgeois Mills. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon from St. Henry's Church, Barachois, with Rev. Father Edgar LeBlanc officiating.
