    Memramcook West (Special) - Leo Melanson, 85, of Memramcook West died Monday died Monday at Dr. Georges L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton, after a brief illness. Born in Memramcook West, he was a son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Melanson) Melanson. A retired carpenter, he attended St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Memramcook. He is survived by his wife, the former Melanie Allain; five daughters, Mrs Emery Landry (Aline ) of Moncton, Mrs. Gerard Richard (Huberts) and Mrs. Camille Bourque (Mary-Louise), both of Dieppe, and Mrs. Alphe Fagan (Lauraine) and Mrs. Guy Boudreau (Yvonnisse), both of Waltham, Mass.; three sons, Norman of Belliveau Village, Laurie of Waltham, Mass., and Adrien of Memramcook West; a sister, Mrs. Alderic Belliveau (Lacienne) of Moncton; three step-sisters, Mrs. Eugene Leger (Annie), Mrs. Leandre LeBlanc (Marguerite) and Mrs. Raymond Poirier (Nathalie), all of Moncton; two step-brothers, Gerard Melanson, both of Memramcook West; 21 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A sister; Mary, and a brother, David, died previously. The body is at Dupuis Funeral Home, Memramcook. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at St. Thomas Roman Catholic Church, Memramcook, at 7 p.m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

    Ambrose A. Legere - The death of Ambrose A. Legere, 11 Fullerton Street, Amherst occurred at his home early Wednesday evening following a short illness. He had only been bedfast for the past three weeks. He was in his 91st year and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Legere of St. Andre, N.B. he was born in St. Andre and resided in Shemogue, N.B. for ten years, and Nappan for two years, before coming to Amherst 54 years ago. He was a member of St. Charles Roman Catholic Church. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Elizabeth M. Brine April 26, 1964. He was also predeceased by his daughter Annie (Mrs. John Brine) of Amherst and two sons, Henry of Montreal and Maxime of Amherst. Surviving are three daughters, Della (Mrs. Arthur Cormier) of Amherst; Miss Rosie Legere, Amherst and Irene Legere of Halifax; one son Napoleon Legere Amherst and 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The late Mr. Legere is resting at Furlong's Funeral Home with visiting hours from 2-4 p.m. and this evening from 7-9 p.m. The Parish Rosary will be recited tonight (Friday) at 8 p.m. THe funeral mass will be held from St. Charles Roman Catholic Church Saturday morning at nine o'clock Burial in St. Charles Cemetery.

    The death of Mrs. George Richard, one of the most highly respected residents of St. Anne de Kent occurred at her home here this morning at the age of 87 years, after illness of five days. The deceased up until a short time ago had been in the best of health but last Sunday she became ill and failed to recover. A native of Scoudouc the deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Boudreau. She was a woman of fine character and beloved by all who knew her and her death was a shock to the community. Besides her husband, the late Mrs. Richard is survived by four sisters, Rev. Sister Marie Aurele of the Louis Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Mrs. Leona Richard, Halifax, Mrs. Clement Cassie, St. Anne de Kent and Mrs. Peter Leger, Barachois, as well as one son, Peter Richard, Lynn, Mass., also two sisters, Mrs. Clovis Albert of Lakeburn, N.B., and Mrs. Ferdinand Maillet of Saint Fabien, Kent Co. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon from the St. Anne de Kent Roman Catholic Church.

    Funeral Mrs. A. Leger Held -
    The funeral for Mrs. Margaret (Maggie) Leger, wife of the late Alyre Leger, 166 Victoria Street, Moncton, who died Saturday morning in Hotel Dieu, was held this week in Assumption Cathedral. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Leo-Paul LeBlanc, Nephew of the deceased, assisted by Rev. Paul Breau as deacon and Rev. Francois Roy as sub-deacon . Rev, George Leger was present in the sanctuary. The pallbearers were Roger LeBlanc, Anselme LeBlanc, Edgar LeBlanc, Henry LeBlanc and Joseph LeBlanc, all nephews of Mrs. Leger and Emmett Savard. The service was largely attended by relatives and friends from Moncton, Memramcook Barachois, Shediac and other parishes. The body was placed in the receiving vault of Our Lady of Calvary cemetery, Chartersville, until interment at a later date in the family lot. Prayers at the vault were recited by Rev. LeBlanc.

    Mrs. Leandre Belliveau -
    The death of Mrs. Leandre Belliveau occurred at the city Hospital at midnight on Friday, 23rd, following an operation which was performed nine days previously. She is survived by her husband and three small children, Emile, Helen and Andrew, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Leger; five brothers, Anthony, Phileas, Alyer, Arthur and Leo Leger, and two sisters, Mrs. Judith Melanson and Mrs. Z. M. Leger, all of Moncton. Mrs. Belliveau was well and favorably known and her many friends will be greatly grieved to learn of her passing. The funeral will be held at 8 o'clock this morning in the L'Assomption church. Interment will be made in the Roman Catholic cemetery on the Shediac Road.

    Outre son épouse, il laisse dans le deuil une fille , Janet (David Cogger), de Lower Coverdale; une soeur, Antoinette (Sifroi LeBlanc), de Memramcook, ainsi qu’un frère, Dollard, de Moncton.
    Une soeur, Huberte et un frère, Arthur l’ont précédé dans la tombe.
    M. Léger était membre du Club de curling Beauséjour et un des fondateur du Cercle acadien et du Club Beauséjour.
    La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée à la Maison funéraire Frenette de Moncton. Les funérailles auront lieu le mercredi 4 octobre à 10h en l’église Christ Roi de Moncton, et de là au cimetière Notre-Dame du Calvaire à Dieppe.

    Yvon Léger (1923-2007)
    SHÉDIAC - À l’Hôpital régional Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont de Moncton, le lundi 17 décembre 2007, à l’âge de 84 ans, est décédé après une longue maladie Yvon Léger, domicilié à Shédiac. Né à Dieppe le 4 avril 1923, il était fils de feu Alban Léger et de feu Julie Léger.
    Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Nora Léger; une fille, Denise Stephens (Doug) de Vancouver, C.-B.; trois fils: Robert Léger (Melba Gruntz) de Whitby, Ont., Peter Léger d’Oshawa, Ont. et Paul Léger de Calgary, Alb.; une soeur, Dorine Walker (Frank) de Mississauga, Ont.; deux frères: Clarence Léger de Saint-Paul et Gérald Léger de Dieppe; neuf petits-enfants: Lori-Anne, Roxanne, Mathieu, Melissa, Holly, Ashley, Rose, Tiffiny Jennifer et Emelie; cinq arrière-petits-enfants: Bradley, Gavin, Gage, Misha et Hyatt, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.
    Un frère, Edgar, l’a précédé dans la tombe.
    M. Léger a travaillé chez General Motors à Oshawa, Ontario, pendant 28 ans. Il était membre des Chevaliers de Colomb, 4e degré et membre du Club de l’âge d’or de Grand-Barachois.
    La dépouille mortelle sera exposée à compter de 14h, le vendredi 21 décembre, à la Coopérative funéraire Passage de Shediac Bridge. Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Henri de Grand-Barachois, le samedi 22 décembre, à 10h30. L’inhumation se fera au cimetière paroissial, au printemps.
    Heures de visites: le vendredi 21 décembre, de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h et le samedi 22 décembre, de 9h à 10h.
    A la demande de la famille, un don à l’Association pulmonaire du N.-B., à la Fondation canadienne du rein, à la Fondation des maladies du coeur ou à une oeuvre de bienfaisance de votre choix, au lieu de fleurs, serait apprécié.

    The death of Aime M. Richard occurred yesterday morning at the Hotel Dieu after a brief illness. Mr. Richard, who was in his 41st year, was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Richard, of this city. He was a former employee of T. & A. Leger, Limited. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Ferdinand Bourgeois, St. Anselme; Mrs. Adelard LeBlanc, Montreal; Mrs. Edmond Leger, Verdun, P.Q.; Mrs. Camille Leger, Leger Corner; and three brothers, William. of Saint John; Adelard and Albent, of Moncton. The funeral will take place Sunday afternoon from the some of his brother, Albeni Richard, 371 Luts street.

    Yvon Léger, 84, husband of Nora, passed away on December 17, 2007 at the Dr. George L. Dumont hospital, after a lengthy illness. Born April 24, 1923 in Dieppe, he was the son of the late Alban Léger and the late Julie Léger. He was employed by General Motors in Oshawa, Ontario for twenty-eight years. He attended the St-Henrie du Grand-Barachois Roman Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus - 4th degree and a member of the club D'age D'or in Grand Barachois. Apart from his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Denise Stephens (Doug) of Vancouver, BC; three sons, Robert Léger (Melba Gruntz) of Whitby, Ontario, Peter Léger of Oshawa, Ontario and Paul Léger of Calgary, Alberta; sister, Dorine Walker (Frank) of Mississauga, Ontario; two brothers, Clarence of St-Paul and Gérald Léger of Dieppe; nine grandchildren, Lori-Anne, Roxanne, Mathieu, Melissa, Holly, Ashley Rose, Tiffiny, Jennifer and Emelie; five great- grandchildren, Bradley, Gavin, Gage, Misha and Hyatt along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Edgar. Resting at Cooperative Funeraire Passage Funeral Co-operative Shediac-Bridge, NB. Visiting hours will be held Friday December 21 from 2 until 4 pm as well as from 7 until 9 pm and Saturday December 22 from 9 until 10 am.     HARTFORD, Conn. (Special) —Mrs. Alberta (Richard) Gurchin, 73, of Hartford and formerly of Kent County, died Sunday.

    Born in Bouctouche, she was a daughter of the late Fermin and Madeleine (Leger) Richard. She resided in Hartford for 53 years, working as a secretary at Niles, Beamont & Pond Co. and at Asylum Hill Inc.

    She is survived by her husband, John J.; six sons, Robert J. of Cromwell, Conn., John (Jack) P. of Avon, Conn., Richard C. and Alan J., both of Hartford, Maj. Randal P. of Omaha, Neb., and Gregory M. of Malden, Mass.; one brother, Lorenzo of East Hartford; one sister, Jeanette Powers of Caribou, Me.; and five grandchildren.

    The body is at Ahern Funeral Home, Hartford. The funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at Cathedral of St. Joseph, Hartford, with interment in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, Conn.

    Many friends and acquaintances of Mrs. Sarah LeBlanc, widow of the late Angus B. LeBlanc, will regret to learn of her death which occurred on Sunday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Libere Vautour, Leger Corner, at the age of 74. Being a person of deep Christian principles, of sterling character, and of genial personality, deceased had endeared herself to a wide circle of friends, and was highly respected by young and old alike. She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, Fred, of Fitchburg, Mass. and George, merchant of Leger Corner; two daughters, Mrs. Edward LeBlanc, of Dorchester, N.B. and Mrs. Arthur P. Leger, of Moncton, and fifteen grand children. She is also survived by two brothers, Sixte Gauvin, of Leger Corner, and Benjamin, of Saint John, and one sister, Mrs. L. Vautour, also of Leger Corner. The funeral will be held on Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock from the home of her sister, to St. Therese Church, where a requiem mass will be sung by Rev. A.     Clarence Leger, 76, of St-Paul de Kent, passed away due to a brief illness on January 21st, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Dieppe, NB, on March 13th, 1931, he was the son of the late Julie and Alban Leger. Clarence is survived by his sister, Dorine Walker (Frank), Mississauga, ON; sisters-in-law, Freeda Leger (Melanson), Dieppe, NB, Nora Leger (Richard), Shediac, NB; and brother, Gerald Leger, Dieppe, NB.     Gardner - Francois J. Cormier, 83, of 54 Lincoln St. died yesterday in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home.
    He leaves his wife, Rosanna; a son Louis J.; two daughters, Bernice and Collette, a brother Joseph Gerard of Fitchburg, eith granchildren, five great grand-children, neices, and nephews. He was born in St. Anne, New Brunswick, Canada, son of Edmond and Marie (Legere) Cormier, and lived here most of his life.
    He worked for 10 years for the highway division, Gardner Department of Public Works, retiring in 1973.
    He was previously a press operator for many years at the former Kuniholm Mfg Co. Mr. Cormier was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, its League of the Sacred Heart, the Gardner Fish & Gun Club, and the Gardner Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a member and past president of the Acadien Social Club, and a founder and past president of the Cormier Family Association. Mr Cormier served on the local Selective Service Board from 1955 - to 1965.

She afterwards married Raphael Leger, a well known citizen of Shediac. She was the last survivor of a large family.     Maurice Richard -
    Following an illness of about three months duration, the death of Maurice Richard, 289 robinson St., occurred in the Hotel Dieu last evening at 9:15 o'clock. About a month and a half ago Mr. Richard was removed to the hospital where it was hoped expert treatment and medical care might prolong his life, but gradually weakened until death occurred at the time stated. Although not entirely unexpected, nevertheless his passing will be deeply regreted by a large number of friends and relatives in Moncton and surounding territory where he had spent his entire lifetime. Mr. Richard, who was 76 years of age, was born in Memramcook, and early in life removed to Lakeburn. He came to Moncton in 1911 and had resided in this city since that time. he had been a bricklayer in the employ of the Canadian National Railways, but retired under the Provident Fund, about five years ago. The deceased is survived by his wife, four daughters and four sons. The daughters are Mrs. Ferdinand Bourgeois, fox Creek; Mrs. Adelard LeBlanc, Montreal; Mrs. Edmund Leger, Verdum, and Mrs. Camille Leger, Moncton, and the sons are William, Adelard, Aime and Albany, all of Moncton. Three sisters, Mrs. P. Bourque, Moncton; Mrs. Oliver Gould, Lakeburn, and Mrs. John LeBlanc, Fox Creek, also survive. Mrs. Simon LeBlanc whose funeral was held yesterday morning, was also a sister and the sympathy of their many friends is extended to the family in their double bereavemnet. The funeral of Mr. Richard will be announced later.

    Many friends and relatives in Leger Corner as well as in Moncton and other places will learn with keen regret of the passing of Silas P. LeBlanc, retired C.N.R. boilermaker, which occurred in the Hotel Dieu early yesterday after an illness of one week. Deceased was 68 years of age and was a highly esteemed resident of Leger Corner. He also had many friends in railway circles in Moncton. He retired from the C.N.R. employ six years ago under the Provident Fund Act after 42 years of faithful service. Surviving are his wife, five sons, William, of Moncton, Ernest, of Campbellton, Emile, of Lynn, Mass., Edgar, at home and Aurele, of Leger Corner. Three brothers and four sisters also survive. The brothers are Joshua and Raymond, of Upper Dover, and Everett, of New Bedford, Mass. The sisters are Mrs. Joseph Landry and Mrs. Andre Arsenault, of Moncton and Mrs. Dominic LeBlanc, Upper Dover and Mrs. Adolph Leger, Memramcook. The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon to St. Theresa's church, Leger Corner, for service at 2.30 o'clock, with interment afterwards in St. Anselme cemetery.

    The people of Cocagne were saddened on wednesday evening when they learned of the passing of the community's oldest residents in the person of Mrs. Lucien Arseneau (nee Olive Drisdelle). The deceased, who was 90 years of age, had been ill for the last two months and although she gradually weakened, her death came as a shock to the community. The deceased had been married twice, her first husband being Mr. Leger, of Cape Bauld. She is survived by three sons from her first mariage Arcade Leger, of Cocagne, and James and Donnat Leger, of Springhill, N.S. The funeral will be hld Friday morning from the parish church at Cocagne with high mass of requiem at 9 o'clock. Rev. Father Gaudet will officiate.

    The funeral of Miss Elise Leger, who passed away in the Hotel Dieu Hospital here Sunday morning, took place Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Kent County, and was largely attended by friends and relatives who gathered from various sections of her native community and surrounding districts to pay a final tribute of respect to one who was held in high esteem. Requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Father N. P. Landry, parish priest at St. Mary's and in sanctuary was Rev. Desire Allain, of Notre Dame. Interment was made at St. Mary's. The pallbearers were Arsene Richard, Regis Richard, Lorenzo Richard, Victor Leger, Clement leger, all nephews of the deceased and Everiste Allain. A great many spiritual bouquets, mass cards and telegrams of condolence were received which testified to the love and high esteem which Miss Leger was held by all who knew her. Among those attending the funeral in addition to many friends and relatives from Moncton, Leger Corner and other places, were Edmond Leger, of Montreal, and Miss Jean Leger, of Waltham, Mass., brother and sister of the deceased.

    After an illness of but one day, there passed away at his home, in St. Thomas, a highly respected resident of that district in the person of Henry B. Robichaud. Mr. Robichaud's passing came as a shock, not only to his imediate family, but also to a wide circle of relatives and friends who deeply mourn his passing. The deceased was born 74 years ago at St. Francis, Kent County, a Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Belonie Robichaud. He had made his home in St. Thomas district for a considerable number of years, where he was light keeper of the Dixon Point Range lights, a position which he had faithfully filled for over 53 years. The late Mr. Robichaud, who at the time of his death was a widower, had been twice married. In religion the deceased was a devout Roman Catholic. Surviving are two sons, Zepherin and Edmund, both of St. Thomas; one step-daughter, Lydia, Mrs. Arcade Leger of Cocagne; also two sisters, Rev. Sister St. Liquori, of Sherbrooke, P.Q., and Mrs. Tasie Allain, of New Bedford, Mass., U.S.A. the funeral was held Monday morning at 8.30 o'clock from the family home to St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, where requiem mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Father Philippe Hebert. Interment was afterwards made in the Roman Catholic cemetery. Prayers at the grave were said by Rev. Father Hebert. The funeral was attended by a large number, evidencing the esteem in which the deceased was held. The pall-bearers were Edmund Robichaud, son of deceased; Joseph Leger, Henry Leger, Arcade Leger, Arcade Cormier and Henry Cornier, all relatives of deceased.

    Mrs. L. Goguen -
    The death of Mrs. Laudia Goguen, wife of Leo P. Goguen of Cocagne, occurred Monday at the Stella Maris Hospoital in Ste. Anne de Kent following a brief illness. She was 74. Born at St. Anthony, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Belseme (Breau) Leger. She attended the Cocagne Roman Catholic Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joseph LeBlanc (Yolande) of Irishtown; one son, Normand Goguen of Waltham, Mass.; two sisters, Mrs. Emile Richard (Irene) of Shediac and Mrs. Aquila Surette (Borilla) of St. Anthony, four brothers, Alphonse of Gardner, Mass., Ovila of Cocagne, Leandre of Providence, Rhode Island, and Yvon Leger of St. Anthony, and by nine grandchildren. The body is resting at the slumber room, Cogagne Roman Catholic Church, where the funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday with interment in the parish cemetery.
