He is survived be his wife, the former Ozithe Richard; 11 daughters, Mrs. Emile Leger (Emma) of Barachois, Mrs. Theophile Melanson (Leonie) of Haute-Aboujagane, Mrs. May Landry of Greenfield Park, Qie., Mrs. Yvon Vienneau (Eveline) of Bas Cap Pele, Mrs. Henri LeBlanc (Ida) and Mrs. Alcide Melanson (Eva), both of Robichaud, Miss Annie Donelle of Robichaud Office, Mrs. Lucie Cormier of Buctouche, Mrs. George Pinard (Marguerite) of St. Alphonse, Que., Mrs. Guy Surprenant (Cecile) of Beloeil, Que., and Mrs. Denis Simard (Doris) of Sept-Iles, Que., three sons, Raymond of St. Andre, Arthur of Cormier Village and Blair of Greenfield Park; four brothers, Joseph and Leo, both of Cap Pele, Willie of Ontario and Normand of Leominster, Mass.; seven sisters, Mrs. Edwin Lemire (Julienne) of Rhode Island, Mrs. Alyre Gallant (Edith) of Cormier Village, Mrs. Marguerite Girouard and Mrs. Raymond LeBlanc (Therese), both of Leominster, Mrs. Herve Robichaud (Edmee) of Moncton, Mrs. William McLean (Rita) of New York City, and Mrs. Richard Gould (Jean) of Nappan, N.S.; 50 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren, nieces and sephews. Dear brother to Rita (wife of Bill Milner), Sackville, N.B., Margaret O'Connor of Dieppe, N.B., Valerie, (husband of Aline), Sardus, B.C., Levi Jr. (husband of Leih(, Sardus B.C., George (husband of Ella), Port Perry, Ontario, Robert (husband of Marjorie), Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Marc (husband of Donna), Maple, Ontario. Il laisse aussi trois sœurs : Mme Arthur Léger (Dorina), Mme Adélard leBlanc (Antoinette) et Mme Arthur Vienneau (Jeannie) toutes de Léger Brook; un frère Donald Bourque de Léger Brook et huit petits-enfants.

    La dépouille mortelle est exposée au salon funéraire Frenette de Shédiac. Les funérailles auront lieu samedi à 11 heures avec service funèbre en l'église de Cap-Pelé et inhumation dans le cimetière de la paroisse.

    Est décédé à St-Charles, N.-B., le 16 mai, M. Cail Légère, à l'âge de 70 ans. Après avoir vécu 48 ans aux Etats-Unis, il était revenu chez son frère, Albénie. Il était aveugle depuis 4 ans. Il a été malade seulement 3 jours. Il ont le bonheur de recevoir les derniers sacrements. Il laisse dans le deuil un frère Albénie Légère et Mme Albénie Légère, deux neveux, Justin et Sydney Légère, cinq autres neveux et deux nièces aux Etats-Unis.

    Les funérailles ont eu lieu le 8 mai. Le service fut chanté par l'abbé Brideau assisté des abbées Comeau et Poirier comme diacre et sous-diacre. Les porteurs étaient: MM. Alyre Vautour, Antoine Vautour, Vital Daigle, Maxime Richard, Johnnie Richard et Dan Richard.

    Amherst - The death of Leo A. Burke, of 41 South Albion St., Amherst, occurred Friday, March 3, 1989, at Highland Regional Hospital, Amherst, He was 80. Born in Shediac, N.B., he was a son of the late Jude and Amanda (Legere) Burke. He was a mechanic with the former Jack Smith Garage prior to 1946, at which time he and his brothers, Arthur and Elmo, owned and operated Burke Bros. Garage on Cresent Street until 1960. From 1960 to 1962 he was engaged as foreman with Rivers and Dickenson Ltd. He then became employed with the Dominion experimental farm in Nappan up until his retirement in 1973. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Nativity of Our Lady Roman Catholic Church. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Juliette Wilson, and a brother, Leon "Pickie". He is survived by his wife, the former Effie Lorimer; a daughter, Joan (Mrs. Seymore Zidle) of Winnipeg, Man., a son, Harold of Amherst; a sister. Edith Burke of Amherst; two brothers, Elmo and Arthur, both of Amherst; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His remains rested at Furlong's Funeral Home Amherst, where visitation hours were held Saturday and Sunday. Prayers were held at the funeral home Sunday evening. The funeral mass will be held today at 10 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lady Roman Catholic Church, conducted by Ft. David MacDonald. Spring burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery.

    Mrs. H. Legere Amherst (Special) -
    Mrs. Rosalie M. Legere, 12 Spring Street, Amherst, widow of Hypolite Legere, died at her home Friday following a lengthy illness. She was in her 93rd year, and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Richard of Cormier Village, N.B. For the past 52 years she made her home in Amherst. She was a member of the St. Charles Roman Catholic church and of the Third Order of St. Francis. She was the last Surviving member of her family. Her husband died in 1938. Surviving are three daughters, Rita (Mrs. John Belliveau) of St. Paul, N.B., Juliet and Loretta, both at home; five sons, Rev. Gregorie Legere of Aroostook, N.B., Romeo of Lewisville, N.B., Alban of Hamilton, Ont., Leonel and Anthony, both of Amherst. 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. The body is resting at her home where parish rosary will be recited Sunday at 8:15 p.m. The funeral mass will be held from St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Monday at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in the family lot at St. Charles cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, Mike, five daughters, Linda (Mrs. Henry Fraser), Upper Plymouth; Helen (Mrs. Donald MacInnis), Stellarton; Vinie (Mrs. Howard Butler), New Glasgow; Ellen (Mrs. Donald Murphy), Pictou Landing Road; and Sylvia (Mrs. Robert Hawboldt), Oromocto, N.B.; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Bessie Eva, in infancy; and 11 brothers and sisters. The body is in H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Born in Little Cape, N.B., he was a son of the late Cyril and Adele (Richard) Legere. He lived in Pictou County most of his life and was a member of Bridgeville United Church. He was an active gardner and farmer, providing produce to many Pictou County residents for a number of years. During the Second World War, he served with the Pictou Highlanders. He is survived by five daughters, Linda (Mrs. Henry Fraser), Upper Plymouth; Helen (Mrs. Donald MacInnis), Stellarton, Vinie (Mrs. Howard Butler), New Glasgow; Ellen (Mrs Donald Murphy), Pictou Landing Road; Sylvia (Mrs. Robert Hawboldt), Oromocto, N.B.; two sisters, Mrs Rose Perry and Marie (Mrs. Leo Ouellette), both of Massachusetts; two brothers, Patrick and Clovis, both of Cape Pele, N.B.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel; an infant daughter, Bessie Eva, several sisters and brothers. He is survived by three daughters, Theresa (Mrs. Robert Burns), Roberta (Mrs. Mark Corbett) Rosella (Mrs. Gordon Edgett), all of Amherst; four sons, Ronald, Amherst; Lorenzo, Henry, both of Moncton, N.B.; Paul, Chelmsford, Mass.; a sister, Mrs. Ida Comeau, Amherst; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Lucy Jacob; a sister, Matilda; two brothers, Alphonse, Philip. The body is in Furlong's Funeral Home, Amherst, visiting 2-4 p.m. today. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, Father Louie Caissie officiating. Burial will be in St. Timothy Cemetery, Shemogue, N.B.

    Elle laisse dans le deuil une fille adoptive, Laurina Thébeau de Dieppe; une soeur, Pascaline Léger de Lynn, Mass., ainsi que deux petits-enfants et plusieurs neveux et nièces.

    Trois soeurs: Anita LeBlanc Fraser (décédé le 2 décembre 92), Huberte, Alisca Léger, l'ont précédée dans la tombe.

    La dépouille mortelle est présentement exposée à la Maison funéraire Dupuis de Memramcook. Les funérailles auront lieu en l'église Notre-Dame de Lourdes de Memramcook Est, ce lundi 21 décembre à 19h et, de là, au cimetière paroissial.

    LEOMINSTER- Evangeline M. "Eva" (Leger) Sargent, 94, of 100 Main St. died Sunday in Mariner Health Care of North Central Massachusetts, Fitchburg, after an illness.

    Her husband, David J. Sargent Sr., died in 1979. She leaves a son, David J. Sargent Jr. of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Dora Richard and Esther Leger, both of Sackville, New Brunswick; three grandsons; two great granddaughters; nephews and nieces. She was born in Sackville, daughter of Hyppolyte and Justine (Thibodeau) Leger, and lived here most of her life.

    Mrs. Sargent was a member of St. Leo's Church.

    The funeral will be held Thursday from M.A. Simard & Son Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Leo's Church, 128 Main St. Burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.

Viola Cormier; a son, Ewart, Halifax; five daughters, Berthina (Mrs. Bob Paul), Spryfield; Rosalie (Mrs. Joseph Legere-Taylor), White's lake, Halifax County; Benita Brake, Adelaide (Mrs. Gerald Lawrence), Alice (Mrs. Bill Legere-Hardstaff), all of Halifax; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a step great-grandson. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Lana, a son, J. Alvah; a brother, Edgar. The body is in Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, visiting 2-4, 7-9 today and Sunday. Funeral will be 9 a.m. today in St. Catherine's Church, Halifax, Rev. March officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday in St Catherine's Parish Cemetery, Port Elgin.     The death of Mrs. Mary Matilda Legere, widow of Frederick Legere, of Joggins, occurred Wednesday at the St. Vincent Guest House in Halifax, following a brief illness. She was 89. Born in Cocagne, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Damian Bourgeois. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church the CWL and was a former member of the Children of Mary in Joggins. While health permitted she took a keen interest in community affairs. Her husband died in 1954. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Earl Fife (Glady's) Toronto; Mrs. Ronald MacDonald (Anna), Lismore, Pictou County, N.S. and Mrs. Fred Como (Elsie), Joggins and a son, Harry of Pictou. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Harry Whalen (Maude), Moncton and a brother, Wilfred of Cocagne and 10 grandchildren. The funeral mass will be held at the St. Thomas Acquinas Roman Catholic Church in Joggins today at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Ragged Reef cemetery, Joggins.

    Mr. Jude Landry -
    One of the oldest residence of College Bridge passed away yesterday morning in the person of Mr. Jude Landry at the age of 78 years. The deceased was born in Memramcook and had spent all his life in Memramcook and College Bridge in both of which places he was well known and highly esteemed. He is survived by his wife, one son and four daughters. The son is Lea, of the C.N.R., Moncton. The daughters are Mrs. Garnett Hilchey and Mrs. Stanley Hilchey, of Oldtown, ME., Mrs. Nap Leger, of Shediac, and Mrs. Edgar LeBLanc of Moncton.He is also survived by one brother, Mr. Donat Landry, of College Bridge and one sister, Mrs. Gerald LeBLanc, of College Bridge. The late Mr. Landry was for many years, foreman for Mr. A. E. Trites, Railway Contractor in railway constuction work, and for some years he was foreman on the first street railway built in Moncton many years ago. Deceased was also a member of long standing in the C.M.B.A. The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at Memramcook.

    The death of Edith Burke, age 93, of Gables Nursing Home, Amherst, occurred on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Born in Amherst, she was a daughter of the late Jude and Amanda (Legere) Burke. Edith was a member of the Holy Family Parish, Amherst, and the CWL, as well as a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary and past member and past secretary of the Golden Years Society and the Golden Echo’s Band. Formerly active with the CNIB (Cumberland Co.) an avid bowler and card player, she enjoyed reading and crosswords. She loved to travel. In earlier days, she played shortstop for the first ladies softball team of Amherst, the Amherst Red Wings. In 1935 & 1944 the Red Wings were Maritime Champions. When able, she volunteered with Gables’ Nursing Home. Following her marriage to her late husband Ernest in 1958, she lived in the U.S.A. for a number of years returning to Amherst in 1962. Edith was predeceased by her husband Ernest, in 1974, and by sister Juliette, and brothers, Leon “Pinkie”, Leo, Arthur and Elmo and special relative and friend, Lynda Burke. She is survived by nieces and nephews and special friend, Ginny Ramsay. Edith’s remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home Chapel, 68 Church Street, Amherst, from where a time of visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass for Edith Burke will be held from the Holy Family Parish Church, Church St., Amherst, on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 10 a.m. Burial in the St. Charles - Nativity Cemetery in the spring.
